Hérès, OmeTV, Chatroulette and the historical Omegle model: what is different?
Scroll the table when needed.
| Criterion | Hérès | OmeTV | Chatroulette | Historical Omegle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A profile, preferences and a mutual like. | Random video with a stranger, using filters offered by the service. | A video connection with a stranger. | A random connection with a stranger. |
| When the camera starts | After a match, from the conversation, following an accepted call request. | The camera is central to the random connection. | Video is central to the initial connection. | Text or video chat started with the randomly selected person. |
| Continuing the exchange | The match keeps a conversation space between both profiles. | OmeTV also presents profiles, friends and followers around its random chat. | The session can continue or be replaced by a new random connection. | The session ended when either person disconnected or moved on. |
| What you present | A nickname, a bio and, depending on the selected mode, public photos or no public profile photos. | Your camera, selected country or gender and the published profile features. | Your camera and the settings offered by the service. | Little or no profile before the conversation. |
| Private content | Optional private media and galleries in designated spaces. | The official rules describe video chat as a public space and prohibit nudity. | The official service prohibits sexually suggestive content. | It was not a dating journey with private galleries. |
The historical Omegle service closed in 2023. As of 1 November 2026, omegle.com announces an upcoming launch, so its final features are not compared here.
Is Hérès really an Omegle alternative?
Yes if you want to meet someone new online, chat and move to a video call when the interest is mutual. No if you want an instant camera with a randomly selected stranger. Hérès replaces the roulette with profiles, preferences and a match.
This distinction is deliberate. Read a bio, view the public details a person chose to share and decide whether to like them before a conversation opens. No match, call or in-person meeting is guaranteed.
From a profile to a live video call between matches
The experience begins with profile discovery. When two people like each other, they match and receive a conversation. From there, either person can propose a live video call; the other person remains free to accept or decline.
Camera and microphone permissions are required. A match or accepted call is not consent to record, redistribute, receive private content or arrange an in-person meeting. Either person can end the exchange.
Hérès, OmeTV or Chatroulette: profiles first or random video?
OmeTV and Chatroulette place a video connection with a stranger at the start of the experience. OmeTV also offers filters and social features. Hérès introduces video later, in a conversation opened by a mutual like: choose a profile first, then decide together whether to see each other live.
None of these models makes every conversation automatically safe. The Hérès experience changes when video appears and gives the first call some context. Use blocking and reporting when an exchange crosses your boundaries.
Meet without public profile photos
Hérès offers an anonymous profile that hides public photos while enabled. This is different from incognito mode, which limits profile discovery to people you have already liked. A nickname, anonymous profile or incognito mode does not guarantee absolute anonymity.
Required service checks still apply without public photos. A bio, voice, video conversation or information you choose to share may identify you. Decide what to reveal at each step.
Conversation, live video and private content are different
A video call is a live exchange with a match. Private media and galleries use separate spaces and access conditions. One never automatically authorises the other: a call grants no rights over someone’s content, and content access never requires accepting a call.
Permitted adult content belongs only in designated private spaces for adults. Public photos must not show explicit content. Demo payments are simulated, and real-money services are not open at this time.
How should you choose an Omegle alternative?
Start with the experience you want. For random video without profiles, read the rules and protections of the relevant chat service. For adult profiles, matching, conversations and an optional live call afterwards, Hérès is the closer fit.
Also check the age requirement, content rules, blocking and reporting tools, and what appears before the camera starts. A comparison explains product flows; it cannot guarantee how people will behave.
